Type of vitamin : water soluble - this means that it is not stored by the body and needs to be consumed daily.

USRDA : Men - 60 mcg (micrograms), Women - 60 mcg

Functions: Biotin is necessary for:

  • formation of fatty acids
  • metabolism of glucose (sugars)
  • regulation of body chemistry

Deficiencies : Biotin deficiency (not enough) can result in:

  • anorexia
  • dermatitis (in infants)
  • dry, itchy skin
  • nausea
  • vomiting

Overdose : Biotin overdose (too much) can result in:

  • failure to absorb B vitamins
