Canned soups tend to have more fat, higher sodium content, and more calories than homemade versions. But, if you have a busy schedule, canned soups can be a great way to add variety to your meal plan. Just select more healthful varieties, check sodium levels, fat content, and calories.
For a quick soup with great nutrients, pick up some stir fry beef strips and, while they're cooking in a deep skillet (no oil), open a package of your favorite frozen mixed veggies. Add a couple cups of low-fat beef broth or no-fat vegetarian broth to the pan when the meat is cooked (be careful not to spatter), add some of your veggies, toss in a few spices to your liking, and simmer for a few minutes until veggies are heated through. You have fresh, homemade soup in about 10 minutes!
