Purpose: Didrex is used to control appetite and reduce weight in obese people. However, weight loss is only achieved by incorporating a plan of diet and exercise in conjuction with this medication.
Also known as: benzphetamine.
Side Effects: Didrex is known to cause the following side effects:
- pregnancy (causes birth defects!)
- allergies to any medications
- heart disease
- high blood pressure
- arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
- glaucoma
- drug abuse
- alcohol abuse
- hyperthyroidism
- anxiety disorder
- seizure disorder
- diabetes
Drug interactions: Didrex is known to interact negatively with many over-the-counter and prescribed medications. If you are taking any of the following medications, be sure to tell your doctor:
- MAO Inihibitors
- Guanadrel
- Guanethidine
- Furazolidone
- insulin therapy
- seizure medication
- blood pressure medication
- antidepressant
Dependency: Didrex is habit-forming. You should always speak with your doctor before discontinuing any medication. Serious physical or psychological problems can result from sudden withdrawal from this medication after several weeks of continuous use.
Warning: Didrex is secreted in breast milk and may cause problems or side effects in your infant. Do not use this medication if you are breastfeeding.
Didrex is known to cause birth defects in unborn children. DO NOT take this medication if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant. Be Be sure to use appropriate birth control while taking this medication to avoid pregnancy.
Due to potential hazards caused by using this medication in conjuction with certain medications and medical treatments, inform your doctor of this prescription before any dental or medical procedure.
