The Overview:
Originally a high-protein, extremely limited carb plan, Dr. Agatston's diet has evolved to include foods from all food groups including good for you grains, veggies, fruits, and even "sweets." With a book outlining the diet, an online diet program, and lots of prepacked food items in most grocery stores, the South Beach Diet is definitely mainstream and easy to get along with.

"I had struggled with about 20 pounds of stubborn weight after I had my last baby. No matter what diet I tried, I always seemed to end up an extra pound heavier when it was all said and done. Then, my friend gave me the South Beach Diet book. I thought the foods sounded pretty good and weren't going to be a hassle to prepare. I picked a Sunday as a starting date and plunged in. I had bought a lot of the frozen things ahead of time and made a drawer in the fridge just for me with baggies of munchies I was allowed to have. After about six and a half weeks, I was only two pounds away from my goal. I was so energized and happy to walk and workout. I felt great. The nice thing is, when I stopped eating the frozen meals and eating with the family, I had a better idea of what to eat, how much to eat, and what to avoid to keep things on track. I still fluctuate a bit, one or two pounds, and I don't mind that since I get to actually eat like a person, go out to dinner, and even splurge on occasion without freaking out and starving to make up for it. This plan has really worked for me. I hope it helps other people."
