When considering weight loss surgery, be sure to investigate your surgeon, speak to others who had the procedure, seek a second opinion, and do your homework. Look into the side effects, long-term prognosis, risks, and benefits for the procedure before committing to any procedure.

| Gastric Band Surgery - Story of Success and Caution |
| We received this story from T.C.P. on 9 August 2006:
"I had gastric banding on 22 April 2006. It went really well. Although, I must admit, it is a life-changing decision.
I have had two adjustments so far. I've lost 30 pounds so far. The weight loss isn't as fast as the gastric bypass, and it is a lot more work. The point of the decision to have the surgery is that I had decided to lose weight and keep it off.
People don't realize that just because I had surgery, it's not the easy way out. I still have to make those lifestyle changes necessary to accomplish my goals. I work out. I watch what I eat.
It was still the best decision I've made my whole life. My clothes fit better. My blood pressure has decreased. I still have some way to go, but I don't feel as defeated about dieting as I used to."
