If you can't find fresh tuna steaks, buy frozen. To thaw, put into an airtight bag and thaw in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

If time is an issue, you can unpackage the frozen tuna steaks and place into a colander.  Submerge the colander in COLD water and gently separate steaks with a fork or spatula as the steaks thaw.

If you prefer, substitute lemon juice and lemon wedges for the lime in this recipe.

Grilled Lime Tuna Steaks
Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs tuna steaks (approximately 1" thick)
1/4 cup lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 medium lime, cut into wedges (for garnish)
  • Mix lime juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic in shallow glass baking dish.
  • Add fish to marinade being sure to cover completely.
  • Cover dish and place in refrigerator for at least 1 hour but no more than 24 hours.
  • After marinading for at least one hour, remove fish from marinade. Discard marinade.
  • Heat gas or coal grill to medium heat.
  • Place fish on grill 4-6 inches from heat.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes, turning once.
  • Serve fish with lime wedges.
