You have now discovered an easily changed dessert you can make to fit any occasion.
For Memorial Day or Fourth of July, use cherry and blueberry pie fillings.
For mother's day or Thanksgiving, try apple pie filling.
How about cherry pie filling for Washington's birthday?!
Note the number of servings in this dish - 16. Be sure to cut it properly to maintain a reasonable calorie count.

| Martha's Cherry Casserole |
Ingredients
(16 servings - 300 calories per serving)
|
| 1 cup |
butter |
| 1-1/2 cups |
granulated sugar |
| 4 |
eggs |
| 1 tsp |
almond extract |
| 2 cups |
all-purpose flour |
| 2 tsp |
baking powder |
| 1 can (21 oz) |
cherry pie filling |
|
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a 13x9-inch cake pan or casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Add eggs.
- Beat until light and fluffy.
- Add almond extract.
- Stir in flour and baking powder.
- Mix until smooth.
- Pour cake mixture into prepared pan.
- Using a large spoon, drop pie filling into cake mixture in 16 evenly spaced spots.
- Place into oven on center rack.
- Bake 45-50 minutes.
- NOTE: The filling sinks into the cake batter as it bakes!
- To serve, slice into 16 pieces and serve, bottom-side up, on individual plates.
- Serve while warm.
