You can skip the bourbon in this recipe, if you prefer. Just substitute 1 tsp of almond or vanilla extract to keep the flavor rich.
You can substitute chopped walnuts for the pecans.

| Moroccan Spice Bars |
Ingredients
(12 servings - 250 calories per serving)

| 1/2 cup |
butter |
| 1-1/4 cups |
brown sugar (lightly packed) |
| 2 large |
eggs |
| 2 tbsp |
bourbon |
| 2 squares |
unsweetened baking chocolate (melted) |
| 1 cup |
all-purpose flour |
| 1/2 tsp |
cinnamon |
| 1/2 tsp |
nutmeg |
| 1/2 tsp |
baking powder |
| 3/4 cup |
coarsely chopped pecans |
| 1 tbsp |
powdered sugar (optional) |

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray 8x8-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
- Stir in bourbon and melted chocolate.
- Mix until creamy and well-blended.
- In separate mixing bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and pecans.
- Mix until well-blended.
- Add flour mixture to butter mixture.
- Mix until well-blended.
- Pour batter into prepared baking pan.
- Place on center rack of oven.
- Bake for 25 minutes.
- Cool cake completely before cutting.
- Cut into 12 bars.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
