This is a lower calorie version of the insanely rich 3,000 calorie restaurant onion flowers.
Because each person ends up with an entire flower, it makes a lovely presentation for barbecues and entertaining.
Serve with low-calorie ketchup or the new spray-on salad dressings like Italian or Balsamic vinaigrette, although these are mighty tasty without anything extra added.

| Grilled Onion Flowers |
Ingredients
4 servings - 75 calories per serving
1g fat per serving

onions |
| 1 tbsp |
olive oil |
| 1/4 cup |
cider vinegar |
| 1 tbsp |
dried oregano |
| 1 tbsp |
brown sugar |
| 1/4 tsp |
salt |
| 1/4 tsp |
black pepper |
| 1/3 cup |
seasoned croutons (crushed) |
|
- Peel onions.
- For each onion:
- Cut 1/2-inch slice from the top of the onion
- Cut into 8 wedges without cutting all the way through (creating a flower).
- Gently open onion "petals."
- Place on foil square brushed with olive oil.
- Heat gas or charcoal grill.
- In small bowl, blend vinegar, oregano, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Sprinkle mixture over onions.
- Wrap foil securely around onions.
- Place onions on grill 4 inches from medium heat.
- Grill for 60 minutes.
- Carefully remove from foil to serving plates.
- Sprinkle with crushed croutons.
- Serve while hot.
