Apple pie is an American tradition and can be enjoyed on a low-calorie diet.  Just watch those portions!
For a sweeter pie, use winesap, Rome, or red delicious apples in place of the Granny Smiths.

If you haven't tried them yet, use golden or white raisins in place of the standard black raisins.

Note this pie is sliced into 10 pieces!

Low fat and delicious
Mom's Apple Pie
Ingredients
10 servings - 230 calories per serving
6 grams of fat per serving
1/4 cup light brown sugar (packed)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
6 medium Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, sliced)
1 cup raisins
1 (9-inch) ready to bake piecrust
1 large egg
1 tsp granulated sugar
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Spray a 9-inch, deep-dish pie plate with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, lemon peel, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Blend well.
  • Add apples to sugar mixture.
  • Stir until the apples are well coated.
  • Stir in raisins.
  • Spoon apple mixture into prepared pie plate.
  • Place crust on top of filling.
  • Trim the edges of the crust by drawing a sharp knife around the outer edge of the pie plate.
  • Using the sharp knife, cut vents into the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
  • In small mixing bowl, beat egg until foamy.
  • Brush crust with egg mixture. If you don't have a pastry brush, use a clean, new paint brush or even a damp paper towel.
  • Sprinkle sugar over glazed pie crust.
  • Place in center of oven.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and cool on wire rack or vented trivet.
  • Serve warm.
