You can use fresh or canned fruit. When using canned, use only fruit packed in natural juices not syrups. Drain thoroughly before using.

Ingredients

peach halves |
| 1 can (16 oz) |
pear halves |
| 1/2 cup |
sugar |
| 1/3 cup |
vinegar |
| 2 sticks |
cinnamon |
| 1/2 tsp |
whole cloves |

- Drain fruit, reserving 1-1/2 cups syrup.
- In large saucepan, combine syrup, sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Bring to a boil.
- Stir until sugar dissolves.
- Reduce heat.
- Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes.
- Add fruit.
- Simmer 15 minutes, stirring gently.
- Pour mixture into large, heat-safe mixing bowl.
- Cover.
- Refrigerate overnight.
- Serve cold.
