Lowering your fat intake is usually a matter of simple substitution.
For example, a baked potato has no fat. Most people glop on butter at 12 grams of fat per tablespoon or sour cream at 6 grams of fat for two tablespoons.
Instead of butter or sour cream, use salsa. Pace Picante sauce, for example, has only 6 calories per tablespoon and zero fat!
If you don't like salsa, try one of the fat-free gravies.
Heinz puts out some fabulous fat-free gravies that are full of flavour and have few calories and no fat.

| Success Comes at Any Age! |
| On 16 September 2005, we received this inspiring story from J.C. of New York about his low-fat lifestyle:
"I was 65-years old when I started to change my life. My wife, who has had M.S. for more than 40 years, was getting worse. I was in need of help myself. At 5'6" and weighing well over 200 pounds with a 42" waist, I couldn't button my pants. It is extremely hard to find any pants with a 44" waist and a 28" length.
The biggest thing that helped me was exercise and sites like FoodandDiet. I followed most of the advice. I started to eat healthfully. I listened to other people. I eliminated most fats and carbs. No more beer!
I do miss the social life that I got at the gym, but the wife wouldn't allow me to leave her alone for an hour or two without becoming worried. So, now I workout in my basement. I'm addicted!
I look for weightlifting events I can compete in. I'm now 70-years old and without any real competition! (Age classes end at age 60.) So, now I have to embarass a lot of 60-year olds and a few of the 50's, too.
My advice: Be ever vigilant! Limiting fats and carbs did it for me. Never, never stop trying!" |
