All weight loss medications require that you diet and exercise to achieve results.

Purpose: Mazindol is used to control appetite and reduce weight in obese people. However, weight loss is only achieved by incorporating a plan of diet and exercise in conjuction with this medication.
Also known as: mazanor, sanorex.
Side Effects: Mazindol is known to cause the following side effects:
- blurred vision
- dizziness (increases with alcohol use)
- dry mouth or unpleasant taste in the mouth
- sleeplessness (insomnia)
- irritability
- nausea
- tremor
- constipation
- diarrhea
- impotence or change in sex drive
- chest pain
- nervousness
- pounding heart
- difficulty urinating
- mood changes
- breathing difficulties
- restlessness
- more serious side effects to report to your doctor:
- allergic reaction
- irregular heartbeat
- very high blood pressure
- severe headache
- hallucinations
- abnormal behaviour
- confusion
Precautions: This medication is not recommended for people with certain pre-existing conditions. Before beginning treatment with this medication be sure to tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
- pregnancy
- high blood pressure
- over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
- glaucoma
- diabetes
- emotional problems
- heart disease
- arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
- anxiety disorder
- seizure disorder
Drug interactions: Bontril is known to interact negatively with many over-the-counter and prescribed medications. If you are taking any of the following medications, be sure to tell your doctor:
- MAO Inihibitors
- weight loss medications
- appetite suppressants
- decongestants
- insulin
- high blood pressure medication
- antidepressants
Dependency: Mazindol is habit-forming.You should always speak with your doctor before discontinuing any medication. Serious physical or psychological problems can occur with sudden withdrawal after being on this medication for several weeks.
Warning: Mazindol may be secreted in breast milk and may cause problems or side effects in your infant. Do not use this medication if you are breastfeeding.
Mazindol may affect your fetus if you are pregnant. Do not take this medication without first determining whether you are pregnant. Do not take this drug if you intend to become pregnant during treatment.
