Saccharin has been around for a long time.
While some links to cancer have been made with saccharin, if you must use an artificial sweetener, it is best to use saccharin.
Saccharin - the best choice in artificial sweeteners if you absolutely must use one
On 10 May 2004, we received this note from T.H., concerning her use of saccharin.
"I have been using saccharin for 30 years and have never had a problem with it. I use it in my coffee or iced tea. I am angry because any sugar-free candy now is made with Splenda, sugar alcohols, etc.

I can't eat this stuff because it gives me the worst smelly gas I have ever experienced. I keep looking for candy that doesn't have the new substitutes, but that's all I can find.

So, what is one to do for their sweet tooth cravings when all that's out there has Splenda?

I am a registered nurse and I have researched saccharin and Equal (aspartame). I believe saccharin should be the substitute of choice. It's just impossible to find it anymore."

Thank you T.H. for sharing your story with our visitors. Perhaps some of our readers will let us know of any candies left out there that don't contain anything besides saccharin as their sugar substitute.

If you've used sucralose and experienced any of the negative side effects, please e-mail us your story.
