On 11 June 2004, we received this note from L. of Phoenix, AZ, concerning their use of sucralose.

"Your site is the biggest relief I've ever had. Finally, I understand. The mystery of all this gastrointestinal distress is finally solved. Mostly though, it was a more serious side effect that warrants such relief.
I went on Atkins and followed the suggestion for Splenda treats, and almost immediately began having heart palpatations. I thought high protein/fat=bad for heart and switched instead to the heart healthier South Beach Diet (also recommending Splenda), and the palpatations continued.
I even spent the night in the ICU attached to the little machine that sends alarms when the heart rate falters. I rang that bell all night. My heart was exhausted as if it had run 8 marathons and I thought I might die. So did my poor husband who looked on so tragically helpless. I've been medicated to fix my "problem" but it doesn't work.
It starts up in the evening when I begin to eat my Splenda sweetened dessert. Looking back in time, it flared up whenever I bought artifically sweetened soft drinks, or treats and went away when I abstained.
It wasn't until I saw your article that life made any sense to me. I'm definitely off the stuff and I expect to see big changes in my heart.
Thank you, literally from the bottom of my heart."
