Splenda - the sugar substitute you need to be wary about
On 9 July 2004, we received this note from C.C. of West Yarmouth, MA, concerning their use of sucralose.
"After researching sucralose and Splenda all weekend, I have finally put an end to my personal nightmare. You see, I'm on day eight of my "cleansing."

I had been drinking 2-6 Fruit 2Os a day for almost a year, and now I regret every minute. After the deteriorating energy, abdominal pain and swelling, headaches, back pain, stiffness, and a never-ending feeling of doom, I ended up in the emergency room. Not once, but FOUR TIMES.

This lead to a gastrointestingal doctor and tests. The dreaded colonoscopy being the most recent. The doctors all told me that everything seemed normal and that I had too much stress. Well, I know pain and this was definitely real.

I kept thinking that if I feel like this at 38, what am I going to feel like at 48? Then, 8 days ago, it dawned on me. What could I be ingesting that would make me feel this bad? Those drinks that I thought were good for me and kept me hydrated so well... could it be?

That day, I read the back of the label, and now it comes full circle. Each day I feel better and better. The pain is almost 100% gone. I'm getting back to normal. What I've read here and on other websites has made me say to myself--what is this stuff and why is it so readily available? I'm glad my 6-year old son never enjoyed the taste of Fruit 2O because now I think I wouldn't have been able to forgive myself for poisoning him also.

Thank you for letting me tell my story."
