Splenda - the sugar substitute you need to be wary about
On 14 July 2004, we received this note from T.P. concerning their use of sucralose.
"I bought a bag of Carbolite jellybeans. Needless to say, I did not see the very small print on the bag warning that "excessive consumption" has a "mild" laxative effect. I had about 15 jellybeans. Would you consider this "excessive consumption?"

As a result, I had horrible bloating, gas, and cramps followed by six successive instances of diarrhea. 15 tiny jellybeans caused a Drano-like effect on my bowels the likes of which I've never experienced before.

What on Earth is in this stuff?! At the very least, they should make the warning bigger print and put it on the front of the package."

Thank you T.P. for sharing your story with our visitors.

Editor's Note:  We looked up Carbolite Jellybeans. They contain: Maltitol syrup, lactitol, modified food starch, citric acid, artificial colors (including caramel, blue #1, blue #2 lake, red #3 and #40, red #40 lake, yellow #5 and #6, and yellow #6 lake) titanium dioxide, natural and artificial flavors, mineral oil, confectioners glaze, carnuba wax, sucralose (Splenda brand). This information comes right from their website.
