Splenda - the sugar substitute you need to be wary about
On 5 August 2004, we received this note from T. concerning their use of sucralose.
"I decided to quit drinking diet pop and started drinking iced tea sweetened with Splenda in the evening. I was fine, or thought I was fine. I noticed I was really beginning to be mean to my husband.  I continued using Splenda for almost a month.  I started to become very emotional. But the worse symptom of all is sharp stomach pains. They started happening in the evening... WHEN I USED SPLENDA.

I went to the doctor and he said I might have a virus and to see if it persists. I read this website and I'm going back to the doctor today.  I am POSITIVE it was the Splenda and I'm going to quit using it immediately.

Thanks to all who wrote in."

On 9 August 2004, we received an update from T.:

"I have quit drinking Splenda since last Thursday and it is now Monday. I am still experiencing stomach pain, but not as severe. I really feel I have been poisoned.  My doctor told me to contact Splenda to see if they have had any complaints. They sent me to their medical section and she told me I must be allergic to chlorine atoms but it shouldn't be released into my system. They informed me that there is nothing in Splenda to hurt people and that it is FDA approved without warning labels. The medical center said they have had no complaints of diarrhea or pain.

I suggest that everyone with side effects please call 1-800-7SPLENDA and COMPLAIN! Complain to the FDA.

I would hate for a child to experience this type of pain."
