On 16 August 2004, we received this note from M.L. of Trabuco Canyon, CA, concerning their use of sucralose.

"I have been using Splenda in my morning tea for the past four to five months and had noted that I had been having diarrhea, headaches, severe dizziness, anxiety, lack of sleep, and heart palpitations. I hadn't put the symptoms together with the Splenda until last night.
I had actually started removing things from my diet after seeing numerous doctors without any root cause to my problems. I then stopped using the Splenda a couple of weeks ago and all the symptoms went away.
Then, on a whim, I decided to bake some cookies using Splenda to cut back on the sugar--thinking I was being healthier. To my horror, I was in the most intense pain due to gas, cramping, and diarrhea last night about three hours after eating some of the cookies. I thought I was going to pass out, the pain was that intense. I was about ready to have my husband call an ambulance as I thought it was something serious!
Now, after reading other people's similar reactions, I'm throwing the Splenda out for good.
By the way, can we as a consumer report these reactions to the FDA so that they become aware of these side effects? I believe there is a voluntary form that consumers can use if you go to the FDA website. Although, I'm not sure if that's the same form used for foods as used for drug reactions."
Thank you M.L. for sharing your story with our visitors.
