| On 30 October 2004, we received this note from F.O.L. concerning their use of sucralose. |
"I have been bothered by an incredible itching and rash/hives . It started about 2 months ago and was not constant. Sometimes the itching was so intense that I compared it to a reaction to penicillin that I had about 30 years ago. I went to three different doctors and the final one, a dermotologist, diagnosed psoriasis. I knew it wasn't just that, though, because I felt like bugs were crawling under my skin. I believe the psoriasis was merely the result of my scratching that caused small red dots and scabs. I gave up milk, thinking that perhaps the cows had been treated with penicillin. I checked all of the "usual suspects" like laundry detergent, soap... Then, after a severe bout with itching after I had eaten a low-carb candy bar that had Splenda in it, I realized that was my problem. I traced my episodes of extreme itchiness to times I had eaten Splenda. I immediately took an antihistimine and the symptoms improved but did not go away. I am on my second day of improvement and I hope that the product will leave my system entirely soon.
I found very little regarding this problem in the internet. I hope people do not feed this artificial sweetener to children because I don't know if a child could adequately describe the miserable symptoms well enough to be taken seriously.
Thanks for asking."
Thank you F.O.L. for sharing your story with our visitors.
