On 19 November 2004, we received this note from J. of Phoenix, AZ, concerning their use of sucralose.
|
"Well, I found out that with Splenda you certainly do not need a laxative. Having low blood sugar I cannot have sugar because it messes me up emotionally something awful. Haven't noticed much emotional distress with it as with sugar, but I am on medication so that probably keeps it down a bit, but my medication can't keep the sugar reaction down at all. Do notice some gas with it. However, Maltitol is much worse regarding gas. With that stuff it's like someone putting an air hose in your mouth. LOL.
I think it may be causing some short term memory loss as to the likes of aspartame. Seem to not quite remember things so easily. I guess you could call it that spaced out thing. Although I do not think it is as bad as aspartame, but I suppose it could be. Concerning aspartame I try and limit it to weekends only so I can enjoy my Diet Dr. Pepper. Oh, the vices some of us have.
I noticed that at first in drinking Diet Rite Cola that it left an awful after taste in my mouth. However, going to Quick Trip and getting the Dr. Good Guy sweetened with Splenda I didn't notice any after taste.
Is there any sweetener that is not harmful? Of course, there finding out these days almost everything is. So, what's a person to do. Ask God to keep you healthy."
On 23 November 2004, we received an update:
"I do use fruit juice concentrate to sweeten my plain yogurt mixed with nuts or fruit. That about all I use fruit juice for. I love lemon in water and I will have to try soda as well. I think I might have tried stevia in green tea and it didn't taste very good. I will have to try it in other things. Honey unfortunately has the same effect on me that sugar does. Saccharin I use once in a great while."
Thank you J. for sharing your story with our visitors.
