On 2 November 2003, we received this note from R.W. of Scottsdale, Arizona, concerning her use of sucralose.

"Thank you for publishing your website on Splenda (sucralose). I am responding to your request to submit my story on my experience with sucralose.
Exactly six months ago, I started on a low carb, high protein, sugar-free diet. Everything was okay until I discovered low carb shakes and candy bars with sucralose. Immediately, I noted discomfort and experienced sleepless nights. I also had heart palpatations, bloating, and extreme discomfort--to put it mildly. My abdomen seemed to be getting larger rather than smaller on my diet and I was certainly perplexed.
I really never linked it to sucralose until I read the label on one of those candy bars and it warned about "over-consumption" of the product due to its laxative-like effects. I am aware that the malitol in the product was causing some of my discomfort, but after eliminating that from my diet, I still found that, after consuming my morning coffee with Splenda, I was still experiencing discomfort and my abdomen seemed to grow right before my eyes!
I also stopped losing weight after adding sucralose products to my diet and I found that the more I ate of it, the more I craved sugar. This lead to constantly falling off the diet as the cravings became more and more severe.
I would not recommend this product to anyone for any reason. I am now researching alternative sweeteners, but pretty much feel that if I HAVE to have something sweet--I will stick to berries."
Thank you R.W. for sharing your story with our visitors. We hope that all who read it will take note of the effect sucralose had on you.
