| On 23 November 2004, we received this note from J.C., concerning their use of sucralose. |
"I was using Splenda to sweeten KoolAid. Drank 2 qts. each day and this contained 3/4 of a cup of the pourable Splenda. I noticed I was getting a metallic taste in my mouth after a few months and wondered if it was from the Splenda, the Atkins diet causing me to go into ketosis, or my fillings.
I went back to using Sweet N Low and gradually, over the period of about two weeks, the taste went away. Everything else remained the same with my diet with the exception I was now drinking iced tea instead of KoolAid, and I sure didn't have my fillings removed.
I ran out of Sweet N Low and started using Splenda again. Guess what? Metallic taste is back. I have to assume that the Splenda may very well be the source of this problem.
In addition to this, I have moments my tongue goes numb on the one side and I experience tingling, (like when your foot goes to sleep) in my mouth around the lower gum-line on the same side of my mouth. It may be something else but it 's at least interesting that all this occured within two days of going back to Splenda and it had been cleared up before this."
Thank you J.C. for sharing your story with our visitors.
