| On 21 November 2004, we received this note from J.T. concerning their use of sucralose. |
"Hi there,
My long term depression lifted a couple years ago thanks to medication and psychotherapy. It's been such a relief to have control of my life and actions. As I've been gaining some weight low calorie desserts were needed. I tried ice cream with splenda. It was delicious and didn't cause a headache which was even better. The next 48 hrs were awful. I went on a crying binge and exploded at everyone who disagreed with me. It wasn't pretty. Even the death thoughts returned. I was scared and thought that the depression was back and everything was lost.
About 48 hrs later the knife in my soul was removed. My mood lightened and feeling human returned. I've been happy and enthused with life again. Man, that was scary.
I think that the Splenda advertising is a bit misleading regarding the sugar baking equivalents. The one cup of Splenda which was very costly did not equal 2# of sugar they claimed. Though looking in the very, very small print it said something about sweetening taste not literally 2# of sugar. As an aside the cookies were dry and gritty. Can you say, "Expensive garbage filler?"
Thanks for listening. I'm so glad others are validating my experience. I will write to the Splenda manufacturer and will probably receive the same standard letter. Wonder if writing to the FDA would make a difference. I'll write to them too.
Thanks again for asking."
