| On 26 November 2004, we received this note from Y.G. concerning their use of sucralose. |
"I have had a migraine for most of today, the day after Thanksgiving. This is very unusual for me; it really hurts behind my eyes and into my temples. One of my diabetic family members is an avid cook, and she made all of the pies. They were very good, but they had a slightly different sweetness. After my third bite, she announced that she had used Splenda in the pies.
I believe my migraine is the direct result of eating the pie sweetened with Splenda. It angers me that I was not able to make the decision to ingest a relatively unknown artificial "natural" sweetener for myself.
I am not angry at my family member; I am angry with our FDA and our public's desire to "get around" eating in a truly healthy way. We want so badly to be "normal" in our eating habits that we as a society are physically degenerating in this pursuit of eating normally.
What is so bad about sweetening with modest amounts of brown rice syrup, honey, or for those who really have to be careful, stevia? Stevia outshines Splenda in that it is healthy and has healthy side effects, not toxic side effects. I wonder if we will ever learn this collectively as a society."
Thank you Y.G. for sharing your story with our visitors.
