On 15 January 2005, we received this note from K. of Syracuse, NY, concerning their use of sucralose.

"I found your site with info about bad effects of Splenda and decided to follow the link to send you this e-mail about my own experience today with the sweetener.
I bought the product yesterday at the grocery as a way to cutback on my sugar intake after hearing someone rave about it and it being made from sugar I figured it would be great.
Wrong!
I woke this morning and made the usual cup of coffee but put splenda in it instead of my normal sugar. Within maybe an hour or two I started getting symptoms of a digestive disorder. The cramps, diarrhea, and nasty burps. YUK!
I really tried to attribute it to maybe something else but I know no one who has been ill recently with a stomach flu and the only thing I ate or consumed was my bagel and cream cheese this morning and the coffee nothing new but the splenda.
After talking to a family friend she said it may have been the splenda and I should check it out but of course NO WARNING for splenda could be found on its website or the box I bought of it so I started looking around the net and, lo and behold, I am not alone in this experience.
I am certain it was Splenda that has caused my ill feeling I am just thankful I did not consume more than what I put in that one cup of coffee or I may be calling my Dr.for my symptoms. Yes, it is that bad.
Thanks for having the info about splenda on the net."
