On 23 December 2004, we received this note from G.C. of Ashburn, VA, concerning their use of sucralose.
|
"I have tried many of the low sugar foods out on the market today and have had painfull gastric experiences with most, except for Splenda.
One thing, after reading all the stories from people, I noticed that people are trying combinations of substitutes. Splenda/Sucralose and Malitol/Sorbitol/etc. This is very bad.
Please try a Splenda ONLY recipie that you make your self. If you are buying prepackages foods and they have even 1 gram of Sugar Alcohols in them, stay away. It is not the Splenda causing the gastric problems. I can eat 1 cookie with a very small amount of sugar alcohol in it, and have to run for the john.
But I have made recipies with splenda in them and no sugar alcohols and have had no problems what so ever. "
On 15 January 2005, we received an updated comment from G.R.:
"3 co-workers and I have been trying several substitutes for the last year now, and one thing we all agree on is that any product with sugar alcohol causes severe gastric distress in all 4 of us.
It's usually maltitol or lacitol (sp?) or any combo of those. I have experienced very bad, painful gastric problems from eating 2 very small sugar free peanut butter cups. There is obviously different effects on different people."
Thank you G.C. for sharing your story with our visitors.
