"I used Splenda to make lemonade. I started having diarrhea the first day. The second day, it was worse. The third day, I was dehydrated and exhausted. Today is the fourth day. I am so wiped out.
Thank you for this site that shows Splenda is not the healthy sugar substitute it is marketed as. I encourage everyone to throw it out and get something healthier. It just isn't worth you health or your energy. I wouldn't even feed it to my dog."
On 14 February 2004, we received the following update from W.A.:
"It has been two days since I used the Splenda. I am still having upset stomach, but the diarrhea subsided last night. I wanted to verify that it was indeed the Splenda making me ill, so I ate a tiny piece of Splenda-sweetened candy this afternoon. I became ill again, and am convinced it is the Splenda causing the problem.
While I do not believe it will do much good, I will be writing to the FDA and the Splenda company regarding my experience."
On 16 February 2004, W.A. wrote to us again:
"You may be interested to know. After discussing my experience with someone, they told me they did not think it was the sucralose and encouraged me to try it again. I did. Immediately I experienced the same symptoms. There is no more doubt in my mind. It IS the sucralose making me ill. As a woman who plans to have more children, I am concerned about how this product will affect babies in the womb. If it makes me this ill, there has to be side effects that can harm a child.
You are more than welcome to publish my story on your website. I am just thankful to find a place that speaks the truth, because I did go to Splenda's website to look for information on side effects before consuming the product. Naturally, I feel deceived and wonder how far big companies will go to push unsafe products for money."
Thank you A.M. for sharing your story and updates with our visitors.
