"I found your site a few days ago and wanted to share my story.
I have used Equal all of my life. About four months ago, I decided to switch to Splenda thinking it was better than Equal. I didn't have any immediate reaction to it like some people did. However, thinking back, I probably did have more symptoms and related them to something else.
During these past four months, I had become very anxious, hated life, was very depressed, and doubted my fiance's feelings toward me. My allergies had gotten bad, I had horrible gas, and soft bowels. My family even began telling me that I just didn't seem happy and wondered where the "old me" went.
Then, around Thanksgiving, I started to experience facial flushing and hot flashes. They would subside in about 30 minutes, but I couldn't figure out what was going on. My first stop was at the dermatologist who said that I had mild roseacea and gave me a cream to use. I started to use the cream and my skin got worse.
So, I went to my primary care physician and he said that it was my allergies and not roseacea. He prescribed a nasal spray and told me to stop using the cream. Things got worse.
My sister suggested that it might be hormones and that I should see my OB/GYN. I did. She said that I should have my thyroid tested. I did. It came back normal. I still couldn't figure out what was wrong and I felt like I was losing my mind!
Eventually, I determined to "get over it," and simply equated everything to stress and anxiety. It wasn't until this past Monday, after lunch at work, that I started getting the same feeling of hotness with flushing. In my Internet searching, I had come across food intolerance and thought maybe it was something in my diet.
I thought back to what I was eating differently and all I could pinpoint was Splenda. I started putting in my daily coffee and tea about four months ago. About two months ago, I started eating a low-carb yogurt which, lo and behold, had Splenda in it. I decided to stop using Splenda.
During my research, I was shocked at how many people had the same symptoms I did. I haven't used Splenda since Monday and, while I don't feel 100%, I feel like I am slowly becoming my old self again. I am hoping that Splenda was the cause of how I was feeling. I was told to give it a good 2-4 weeks to have it totally flushed out of your system.
Here's to hoping I found the solution and I will NEVER touch that stuff again. I don't even know if I can go back to Equal...
Thanks."
