"I am a life-long user of artificial sweeteners. Four years ago, I was misdiagnosed with MS due to my use of aspartame. The doctors were talking about taking away my driving privileges and suggesting that I consider I would have to live on disability the rest of my life. A woman in my MS support group suggested that I give up aspartame and I did. Three weeks later, I was absolutely symptom-free.
Stupid me... I believed all the hype about Splenda and substituted it for my sweets use. Now, three years later, I have been in living hell for the past four weeks. One or two days, I'll be constipated, then for another few days I'll have diarrhea. All along I've had consistent pain and inflammation throughout my abdomen. I have had people walk in, take one look at me, and offer me a ride to the emergency room--TWICE!
The doctors had no clue even after numerous tests and poking and prodding me for a month.
I grow most of my own fruit, veggies, and herbs and am extremely careful of any store-bought foods I consume. I rarely eat any processed foods. Since I got sick, I had eliminated all but fruit, veggies, and legumes from my diet. Nothing seemed to help. The only thing left to eliminate was my habitual coffee with Splenda.
Three days ago, I substituted honey for Splenda. Yesterday, I was certain I was going to die. Today is a whole other day and I now know that Splenda is a poison and was killing me. I am at least 50% better than I've been any other day for the past four weeks."
