| On 6 April 2005, we received this note from E.V. concerning their use of sucralose. |
"My daughter and I started the Atkins' Diet in February. I was doing fine and my weight loss was steady until my daughter and I bought some of the low-carb energy bars. I noticed my weight loss stalled and I thought it was from eating the bars.
I stopped eating the energy bars and my weight loss resumed. But, I became ill about three weeks ago--vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhea. I missed days of work, underwent blood tests, had an abdominal ultrasound, received three prescriptions, and had numerous doctor visits. They ultimately diagnosed acute pancreatitis.
I have been off Atkins for the last week or so, but plan to resume it once I am completely well. I am absolutely certain that it was the Splenda in the energy bars (and other low-carb packaged foods) that I ate that caused the problem. I intend to resume Atkins, and if I have any further problems, I'll know it's the diet, but I seriously doubt it.
I am telling everyone I know not to eat Splenda. In my opinion, it is toxic!! I have come to the conclusion that if you absolutely have to have something sweet, it is better to eat a small amount of sugar or honey than the artificial sweeteners."
Thank you E.V.for sharing your story with our visitors.
