"I had one--and only one, thank God!--encounter with the use of Splenda.
After a hot day, I stopped at a convenience store to buy a drink. I saw this new iced coffee product packaged in a cobalt-blue bottle. I bought it and drank it on my way home. I remember that I thought it tasted "funny" and I did not finish it.
Within approximately half an hour, I was nauseated and started having obvious heart palpitations--very scary. I recall that I had to stop somewhere and buy some bottled water and something to settle my stomach. The palpitations diminished, but lasted for about two hours.
This incident occured a few hours after I had eaten lunch, so I know that it was not food poisoning of any kind.
When I got home, I discovered that I had bought the "lite" coffee, which I do not buy as I have found that Nutrasweet is awful and gives me very severe fever blisters. I was immediately curious about the sweetener, so I read the label and saw that it was sweetened with Splenda, which I had never heard of before.
Since that time, I do not buy anything new without checking the label right in the store. I have told people about this since it happened to me, but many tell me that since Splenda is made from sugar, it has to be fine. I am sorry, but I cannot agree.
Thank you for posting these concerns."
