"I have been sick for almost a year and a half and didn't realize the problem was from a packet of Splenda.
I have been extremely active for more than five years, but during the past year, I needed to slow down because I was experiencing anxiety attacks, dizziness, shaking, diarrhea, anxiousness, loss of concentration, visual problems, etc. The doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me so they put me on Paxil for the anxiety attacks.
I've been checked for Lyme Disease and tested for MS. I've had all sorts of blood work done and nothing showed up. I've had two MRIs done and everything came back negative. (Thank goodness!)
I've seen a message therapist and chiropractor. You name it and I've done it. I was desperate because I wasn't sure what was happening to me. I thought I was going nuts!
I've spent so much money in the past year trying to figure out what was wrong with me and the problem all along was the use of Splenda in my daily coffee. I was about to take a month of leave from work because I was so sick!
A week ago, I went back to my doctor for a physical and told her that I wasn't feeling any better, so she ran another series of blood tests and performed another MRI. Everything came back negative. They were even going to hook me up to a 24-hour heart monitor to see if that was the problem.
During that last visit, my doctor asked me about my diet and I told her everything. As soon as I said Splenda, she recommended that I get off of it ASAP and see how I feel.
Well... it's been almost two weeks and I am feeling so much better. My energy level has skyrocketed. I cannot tell you how happy I've been. My husband can't believe how much energy I have. It's like I've woken up! I am so much more relaxed. No more heart palpitations. No more dizziness. No more feeling anxious!
If anyone reading this has any of the symptoms I've posted in this note, try getting off whatever sweetener you're on and give it a few days. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel. I never thought a packet of Splenda would affect me like this has for over a year. I'm still shocked!
I'm telling all of my friends and family about my experience. I hope I'm able to help others by sharing this story."
On 23 March 2004, we received an update from J.M.:
"So far, things are going pretty good. Today I experienced a bit of lightheadedness, but nothing like it used to be. I hope this feeling with eventually go away permanently."
We hope so, too, J.M. Thank you for sharing your story with our visitors.
