Splenda - the sugar substitute you need to be wary about
On 24 December 2003, we received this story from LM of Hawaii concerning her use of sucralose (Splenda):
"When I heard about Splenda, I jumped at the opportunity to find as many types of food containing it or coming up with my own recipes containing Splenda. I was cautious about the product because I knew that one day there might be a conflict. To prove myself right, I am not happy with the results.

For the last six to eight months, I have consumed Splenda about five or six days a week.  These are the symptoms I have experienced:

  • bloating
  • gas
  • headaches
  • heart palpitations
  • nausea
  • mood swings
  • sadness

Some of the products that I have consumed have other ingredients in them like maltitol, lactitol, etc. I noticed that I would get more of the symptoms especially when the package stated that excessive consumption would cause a laxative effect.  It did not link that problem to Splenda. It said it was due to the lactose.

The media has put out commercial advertisements with the safety for children that Splenda is good for everyone.  What about Splenda is so harmful? I know that basically it is sugar that is processed and when we consume it, our body doesn't know we are having sugar.

What product should we use?"

Thank you L.M. for sharing your story with our visitors.
