On 4 May 2004, we received this note from T.P. of St. Louis, MO, concerning his use of sucralose.
|
"I have been consuming several sugar-free and low-carb products over the past year or so. All of them contain Splenda. Occasionally, I have noticed slight stomach pain and/or gas, but dismissed the symptoms because they weren't severe... until this morning.
Last night I gave in to my craving for Breyer's Carb Smart ice cream and had two bowls. I had one bowl on the previous day, as well as a Swiss Miss sugar-free hot chocolate sweetened with Splenda. After a rotten night's sleep, I awoke this morning to severe and lasting stomach cramps, gas, and diarrhea.
I'm also beginning to wonder if my bouts of irritability over the past two months are related to Splenda. My wife and kids have commented twice recently that I've become so irritable it's like I'm a different person.
I'm quitting sucralose immediately to see if the situation improves. I'll keep you posted."
On 5 May 2004, we received an update:
"Thanks! No Splenda now for 36 hours and I feel much, much better. Sucralose is not for me."
Thank you T.P. for sharing your story with our visitors.
