On 2 June 2004, we received this note from M.F. of Charleston, S.C., concerning their use of sucralose.

"I experienced the side effects associated with Equal-- brain fog, dizzy spells, shortness of breath, and headaches -- so I switched to using a little Splenda each day since I did not find very much "bad press" about it. For a while my health improved, but after increasing my use of Splenda, and after having used it for several weeks at the increased level, I am now experiencing basically the same symptoms I experienced when I used Equal, but my symptoms are significantly worse.
My symptoms are so bad they are scaring me, especially when I drive. I have even missed work recently because the symptoms became debilitating -- I was very dizzy and felt afraid I would pass out while driving. I am usually happy and positive, but I am feeling extreme, unexplained depression and anxiety. I am so depressed and fatigued I do not even want to get out of bed or do much of anything, but I force myself to keep active. I finally got to the point where I am saying, "I am not myself anymore. What is wrong with me?"
It occurred to me it might be the Splenda making me so sick. Today, I am throwing all the Splenda out to see how I feel in a few days. If I steadily get better each day, I will be convinced it was the Splenda, especially in light of all the stories I read on your Web site. I recently went through a bunch of medical tests and the doctors could not find a medical explanation for my symptoms, which included gastro/intestinal problems like excess bloating, gas and cramping.
Thanks for your valuable service to humanity by posting this information and thanks to all who wrote in sharing their negative experiences with Splenda. You are probably saving lives, including mine."
Thank you M.F. for sharing your story with our visitors.
