On 2 June 2004, we received this note from C.F. of Miami, FL, concerning their use of sucralose.

"UNBELIEVABLE!
For about two weeks from the date of this e-mail, I have been feeling really bloated. It has gotten so bad that for the last couple of days I thought that my colon may be blocked. This morning while riding the train into work, I was planning a complete colon flush, when I started to think about what I?ve actually eaten lately. I am following a low-carb lifestyle and have been singing the praises of Splenda! Not only have I been singing the praises of Splenda, but I have been elated seeing that newer products are switching over from aspartame and now use Splenda in their products.
I am a junkie; I have been using all of their products. Back to being on the train coming into work; I also thought that I was eating my food in the wrong order. You know? proteins first, carbs last, I don?t know. So when I go to work, I had two searches to perform, 1. The order in which to eat food; and 2. Any side effects that Splenda may have.
Thank God, I decided to research Splenda?s side effects first and happened upon your website. Once again I say . UNBELIEVABLE!
I love your logic and reasoning with respect to Splenda?s chemical composition.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Note that the study in the PDF document noted above also reveals the chemical composition of sucralose. We are happy to finally see the structure. However, this structure confirms that sucralose is certainly no longer sugar. So, by altering the chemical makeup of the sugar, are we still getting something harmless? A terrific example is H2O (water). It is harmless. Add another oxygen atom and you get H2O2. H2O2 is hydrogen pyroxide. That is not harmless. We just thought we'd mention it.
Touché!
I haven?t read the PDF file from the Scientific Committee on Food, that?s after this e-mail.
I just thought I?d add my two cents. I have never used aspartame because the reports about aspartame were forthcoming at the time I considered them, but these Splenda/sucralose guys are deceivers all the same. I reiterate the chemical composition logic. This makes me very upset and I don?t trust those in FDA World.
I am completely disillusioned and I will take your advice about weaning myself off of sugar.
Thank you, for allowing me this incoherent venting.
C. F.
P.S. Any info or insight into how to flush this stuff out of you system would be helpful. Also, I came to your Site for one reason and have found that there is a wealth of information about subjects that are important to me.
Thank you."
Thank you C.F. for sharing your story with our visitors.
