Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 7 June 2005, we received this note from P.C. of Windsor Locks, CT, concerning their use of sucralose.
"Hi.

After reading one of your reader's stories on Splenda, I figured I'd share mine. I quit smoking a short time ago and wanted some type of substitution. Well, since I love candy, I found these sugar-free Crystal Lite candies. I don't usually like sugar-free candy, but these tasted good.  I thought how good these would be as a replacement.

Well, day one of eating these candies I noticed some gurgling in my stomach causing really bad gas. At work, no less. I thought it was maby the Caesar wrap I had at Blimpie. The gas carried on until betime when I had a not-so-pleasant BM.

Now, it's day two. I'm at work having a nicotine fit and eating the candies. I eat my lunch (leftovers from the night before) then go for my daily iced tea with the gang at work. On the way back to my desk, I had the worst cramping I can remember.  I ran to the bathroom where I stayed for twenty minutes. When I got back, I called my wife and told her about it. She said her mother had the same reaction with Splenda and has since stopped using it. That is when I went to the web and found your website.

Well, it's still day two and I've been back and forth to the bathroom three times while writing this e-mail.  I am not enjoying this and shall remove Splenda from my diet.

All I can say is now I know WHY you can lose weight by adding Splenda to your diet. Geez!"

Thank you P.C. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
