| On 7 June 2005, we received this note from P.W. of Laurel, MD, concerning their use of sucralose. |

| "After experiencing several headaches during the week following the start of using Splenda in my iced tea, I went to my doctor. The headaches did not respond to regular or extra strength aspirin. My doctor asked if I had changed any of my eating habits or added anything new because he couldn't determine a cause for the headaches. I said that I hadn't because, at the time, I didn't consider adding an artificial sweetener instead of granulated sugar to be a change. He suggested that it might be stress-related. I knew this was not the case as I was currently experiencing the joys of a new job I love and a new relationship. I was very happy.
It occured to me afterward to consider the Splenda. I decided to check online and put in "splenda use and headaches." I was surprised and relieved to find that others had experienced similar symptoms after ingesting Splenda in some form. I stopped drinking the tea sweetened with Splenda and went back to regular granulated sugar. The headaches ceased. Some people may have a sensitivity to the main ingredient in Splenda--sucralose. Maybe that should be studied further or included in some form of warning on the label." Thank you P.W. for sharing your story with our visitors. |
