Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 21 May 2005, we received this note from L.C. of Ontario, Canada, concerning their use of sucralose.
"I just went online to find all of the products made with Splenda as a sweetener. I came across your site and the report of a person who claims Splenda was giving this person all of their health issues.

I like Splenda.  It is the only sweetener I will use. Since my teen years and the days of saccharin, I have had zero tolerance for any sugar substitutes. They taste awful and leave an aftertaste. As a diabetic, I will use sugar before I will use a sweetener because they leave me nauseated after a drink or chewing gum with aspartame.

Splenda came on the market and, finally, I have something I can use to sweeten my food a little. It tastes good and doesn't make me ill after drinking coffee or eating other things with it in it.

There are always going to be people who cannot tolerate some things--like me with artificial sweeteners in the past. My friend who is diabetic uses SugarTwin and isn't affected by it at all.

I will use Splenda when I need sugar or use sugar for lack of anything else. Other than honey, using anything else for me wrecks the taste of my food or drink."

On 23 May 2005, we received another note from L.C.:

"Thank you for your timely reply to my letter. It doesn't have to be posted. I would not want to encourage anyone to use something if it is going to be destructive and thanks to your setting me straight on the facts, I will be very cautious about using any sweetener.  Period.

I wonder why Splenda doesn't bother me like the others. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry.  I try not to sweeten anything and have given up such foods and drinks as require sweetening. It is most likely that I am not as affected because I don't sweeten on a daily basis, just on occasion when I am out with friends or visiting.  I may have coffee for social graces depending upon the situation. Anyway, thank you again for your help and input."

Thank you L.C. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
