Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 23 May 2005, we received this note from J.H. concerning their use of sucralose.
"I was a heavy pop drinker for a long time and decided to try to kick the habit. I found some flavored water--Aquafina Raspberry-that I really liked and switched to drinking that. I slowly switched over to avoid the effects of caffeine withdrawal.

Once I was just drinking the water, I figured life would be a lot better.  About a week or two into drinking the water, I began to feel ill.  I was drinking four or five bottles a day at this time. My stomach would feel upset and I had bouts of diarrhea. This progressed into high levels of anxiety, vomiting, and depression. I never thought it might be caused by the water until my wife told me to try to drink normal (plain) water and see what happens.

So, now I am drinking water and milk and seem to be doing much better. I decided to do a search on Splenda and found your website.  I was amazed at how many problems this stuff has caused. Here is my bio.  Hopefully, it will help others decide that they are in the same boat I was:

I am a 29-year old male. I am 6'3" and weigh 235 pounds. I take Neurontin for anxiety, Prilosec for acid reflux, and Zoloft for depression that I've had since I was 19. I work 40 hours a week at a desk job.  I have a wife and a newborn. I basically have a normal, happy life and don't have much to stress out about. The problem is that I will make myself stress out over nothing sometimes.

I understand I already had the anxiety, depression, and stomach problems before I started using Splenda, but I had them under control. After I started drinking the flavored water, my problems were magnified 100%."

Thank you J.H. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
