Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 9 August 2005, we received this note from B. concerning their use of sucralose.
"I just started to use Splenda because I was told it was a safe product.

After reading this site, I see the symptoms I've been experiencing from bloating to awful gas pains and uncontrollable relief. I have also had diarrhea, headaches I could not get rid of with Tylenol, and numbness in my fingers.

My head couldn't function. To follow instructions or requests from people, I had to verify everything I said to be sure I said it correctly because my mind would act dyslexic. I could write one thing and it would be backward or not anything of what I wanted to write. It was like a totally different person operating inside of me.  It is very scary to think back!

My memory shortness was to the point of looking at something and then having to carry the item or a note with me to retain the information. I couldn't concentrate on any one thing.

I am still experiencing effects. I thought I was losing my mind. This is no laughing matter.

Why is it being advertised as safe? I guess you have to drink plain water. I'm tired of plain water..."

Thank you B. for sharing your story with our visitors.

Editor's Note: There are actually great alternatives to Splenda-sweetened beverages. You can find them all over the site, but here are a few suggestions: A spritz of regular soda in a glass of seltzer water or club soda makes a light soda, a few squirts of lemon juice in plain water or seltzer water tastes great and kills thirst, or try making ice cubes from whole fruit juice and toss a couple into your club soda or seltzer water for a light, refreshing juice drink!

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
