| On 8 August 2005, we received this note from B.N. concerning their use of sucralose. |

| "I think that Splenda upset my moods and made me slightly depressed. I am not normally prone to crackpot theories, but in this case, it seems like the most straightforward explanation for my symptoms.
I recently changed jobs and then, a week later, my wife gave birth to our third child. At the new job, I started drinking decaf coffee sweetened with three packets of Splenda almost daily. Just because it was there and it tasted good. :) I noticed that I was starting to feel slightly depressed and frustrated, although I didn't see a counselor or seek medical help. I chalked it up to the stress of change, although oddly, neither the new job nor the new baby were particularly stressful. The new job was very different from my old one, but I had consciously chosen to leave the old one for the new one. And the baby, while a significant addition to our family and time demands, was a very cooperative infant, sleeping well, and her two older siblings were pretty reasonable about the whole thing. My moods, however, were swinging more and more strongly, especially towards grumpiness and irrascibility. I felt vaguely depressed--not motivated, frustrated, grieving. In contrast, on the weekends, my mood would gradually improve, especially on extended weekends. I finally did a seach for "splenda symptoms" and found, among others, the Food and Diet site. I saw enough to suspect Splenda's influence. I started avoiding Splenda and I felt MUCH better after just a few days. Which adds up to yet more anecdotal evidence against ol' sucralose, in my mind. Viva saccharin! It tastes bad enough to remind you that it's not sugar, but it still sweetens decaf coffee just fine." Thank you B.N. for sharing your story with our visitors. |

| If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities. . |
