| "My spare time is very precious to me, plus I am still feeling ill. So, for me to take the time to relate my story tells you how much I believe Splenda should, at the very least, come with a warning label.
A few months ago, my husband purchased some ice cream. That evening, we each had a small bowl and gave about one teaspoon to our cat, Barney. Before I even finished, I began to feel ill. My stomach was upset and cramping. This was followed by a lot of trips to the bathroom. My husband also said he was not feeling well, but never became as ill as I was. Barney (our cat) threw up--projectile vomiting. This is a cat that eats everything without becoming ill. Because we all becase ill so soon after eating the ice cream, I went to the freezer to check the expiration date. I noticed it said "now made with Splenda." I had heard that Splenda had caused adverse reactions in a few people, so the ice cream went right in the trash. I began to watch labels for Splenda. In other e-mails posted on your website, I noticed complaints about rash and itchy scalp. A few weeks ago, I broke out in a rash and had scalp itch that has puzzled the doctors. The rash cleared up, but the scalp itch has not. I have even noticed some hair loss. I wonder if I may have consumed Splenda without knowing it at a restaurant or something. My husband purchased Diet 7-Up this Thursday evening. I drank it with dinner and all day long at work on Friday. I had an upset stomach and made extra trips to the bathroom. Friday night, I drank more of the 7-Up. I woke up Saturday with pain radiating from my rib cage all the way around to my back. Still feeling sick to my stomach and making extra trips to the bathroom, I could not pinpoint the pain as either stomach ache or backache. I took some antacid and 2 Aleve and began to feel better. I decided to see if I could keep crackers and a little 7-Up down. After consuming the 7-Up, I began to feel worse. After that, I didn't eat or drink anything. Sunday, I had a little more 7-Up thinking that maybe it would help calm my stomach. No such luck. Still feeling bad late Sunday afternoon, I asked my husband to fix me a little 7-Up. That is when he noticed the Splenda label. We both remembered the ice cream incident and wondered if that could be causing the problems. It is now Monday at noon and the 7-Up has gone down the drain. I am feeling better, but the pain from my sides all the way around is still very much there. It is not as bad as it had been, but I can say that it is as bad as the pain I experienced prior to having my gallbladder removed. I know there is no real way of telling if Splenda is the culprit, but from the other postings I read, it sure seems to be likely. I hope the FDA can be prompted to put a warning on food containing Splenda with so many companies changing to Splenda from NutraSweet (which already has a warning). Those of us that are sensitive will have to check labels." Thank you S.M. for sharing your story with our visitors. |
