Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 4 August 2005, we received this note from R.N. of San Jose, CA, concerning their use of sucralose.
"Hello.

I just thought I would share with you my experience after stumbling across your very informative website. I actually typed into Google--Splenda and heart palpitations--to see what might come up and lo and behold--quite a bit!

My initial reason for searching is because I began drinking a fairly good amount of diet 7-Up with Splenda about five months ago. I had been drinking it before just as often when it was sweetened with NutraSweet.

I do not know what the difference is between the two sweeteners, but I do know that my heart began having extra beats immediately. It became so serious that I couldn't go a few minutes without feeling an extra beat. I couldn't figure out what was going on so I tried everything. I got more sleep.  I stopped drinking some protein powder I had purchased. Then I cut out protein bars I had been eating. Nothing helped.

I finally thought to try and cut out the soda, although I couldn't imagine that was it since it has no caffeine. I stopped and, within a few days, my heart palpitations completely subsided. This was after five months of this!! I was becoming very afraid and my next stop was the cardiologist for some help!

Again, I have never had this problem with NutraSweet or Equal and such, but the Splenda I will certainly stay far far away from now!!"

Thank you R.N. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
