Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 4 August 2005, we received this note from B. concerning their use of sucralose.
"Oh, my gosh! I had no idea what Splenda could do to the body!

This past week, I have had bad headaches, bloating, gas, severe hot flashes, and breaking out in cold sweats. I also have been a bit depressed and had no idea why.

I started eating sugarfree candies about a week ago here and there to help with hunger until the next meal. Well, today at work, I got bored and decided to eat about 12 pieces of the Baskin Robbins Chocolate Mint sugarfree candies. I got extremeley nauseated and light headed. I kept having hot flashes and cold sweats so bad that I almost made a trip to the emergency room. I thought I was either on the verge of a heart attack or a stroke and didn't know which.

Well, by evening, I began to swell up HUGE with the worst case of bloating I have ever had. I couldn't even bend over to put shoes on. Eventually, I couldn't even walk it hurt so bad. Well, that is when I started thinking maybe I might be allergic to something, so I went through the things I ate that day and realized the only thing that could have caused this was the candy.

Looking back on the last week and realizing I was havingt the same problems in lesser form, I knew it had to be the artificial sweeteners in them. I looked up the product and realized they contain sucralose. So, I did some research on sucralose and Splenda and came across this website. Now I KNOW that it was the Splenda in the candies that caused my problems.

I have thrown out the rest of the candies and am now trying to get the bloating down and get my stomach to settle down. Hopefully, by bedtime, I will be able to move comfortably and won't feel quite as sick! Artificial sweeteners are poison!"

Thank you B. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
