Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 19 July 2005, we received this note from C.M. of Abilene, TX, concerning their use of sucralose.
"I used Splenda to sweeten a toddie that my husband suggested for my cold.  I because nauseated and had abdominal cramping, but didn't think too much about it. We figured it was something I ate that didn't agree with me, although he ate the same thing and was fine. He also drank a toddie, but without the Splenda.

I continued using small amounts of Splenda for various things, and continued feeling poorly.  Then, a few mornings later, I put a lot of Splenda on my oatmeal. I don't really care for hot cereals, so I wanted to sweeten it up a lot. I became so sick--diarrhea, vomiting, pain, a terrible headaches, mood swings, suicidal thoughts, unexplained weeping, anger (I cursed at the microware and don't even know why!), dizziness, and many other unpleasant symptoms. I literally had to crawl to the toilet to throw up in the wastebasket while having diarrhea hit at the same time. I was so weak, I couldn't stand up.

Everyone who knows me thought I was going crazy. I missed several days of work and almost took my own life! That is NOT typical behavior for me at all. I started thinking--What could be making me this way? I thought back over everything that could be causing it and realized that Splenda might be playing a role. I did some research. The lists of symptoms sounded like a description of me!

I have not used Splenda again, and am very careful to read labels and avoid it. I honestly believe that if I had continued using Splenda, for even a short time more, I would have died. It is not natural and it should be illegal. At the very least, it should have a warning label about the possible reactions."

Thank you C.M. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
