Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 19 July 2005, we received this note from D.C. concerning their use of sucralose.
"This is in regards to my use of Splenda.

I have been using Splenda for a couple of years, since it appeared on the market. I have been having what I thought was an allergic reaction to citric acid because everything I had been drinking has citric acid. Also, the fact that it would burn and be really red all the way up and down my throat and into my sinus cavity, lead me to think it was the citric acid.

Worst of all, it makes my throat swell up and upsets my stomach. I decided to research citrus allergies and found most have an external reaction, not internal. I also thought this was odd because I am 43-years old and have never had any reaction to it before. It kind of gradually came on over the past two years.

I have been trying to avoid anything with the slightest amount of citric acid in it. Well, one morning, I sat down with my usual coffee after purchasing some liquid creamer with Splenda in it. I drank two cups with it. I started to notice my throat starting to swell up again. I looked for the citric acid in the ingredients, but couldn't find any.

After looking at the ingredients again, I realized that everything I had been drinking also had Splenda in it. The pop and juice I have been consuming on a daily basis both have it. I started doing some searching and found out that good old Splenda has chlorine in it. I can't even get near chlorine without having an asthma attack, let alone taking it into my body. It literally felt like I was drinking acid. My throat burns and swells for hours after eating or drinking it.

After finding the culprit, my symptoms, my symptoms have been going away slowly. They need to put warnings on this stuff instead of making people think it's okay because it's made from natural ingredients. I am letting everyone I know what I found out about the dangers of Splenda and how I suffered. Believe me, it's not so Splendid."

Thank you D.C. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
