Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 22 June 2005, we received this note from M. in Wisconsin concerning their use of sucralose.
"Since I was the quality control manager at a food plant and was aware of aspartame dangers, I avoid buying low-calorie treats. I didn't see the small "no sugar added" label when I bought a coffee cake. Being an avid label reader, I noticed it contained "sucralose."

Four hours after ingesting it, I became violently ill.  My lower back (kidney area) ached for hours. My body felt like it had been poisoned. I spent the greater part of the evening in the bathroom with diarrhea. I was still very weak the next morning, and decided never to eat that coffee cake again.

On a later date, I ate a Power candy bar without reading the label. The same symptoms occurred.  Sure enough, when I checked the label, it contained sucralose.

I can no longer freely enjoy holiday treats and dishes to pass.  People think they're doing you a favor when they replace sugar with Splenda without telling you. Although I'm sorry that others have suffered from the use of sucralose, I was glad to find I wasn't the only one who had violent reactions to it.

I also know someone who has gone to Weight Watchers for years.  Both her husband and daughter have noticed her "fuzzy" thinking since she's been on the diet. Sure, she's lost weight, so now she can be a pretty corpse!

I hope sucralose can be taken off the market before the unsuspecting public is harmed more."

Thank you M. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
