On 12 August 2005, we received this note from A.B. concerning their use of sucralose.

"I first read about Splenda (sucralose) in Diabetes Management magazine, and immediately began researching it. I was referred to the Food and Diet site by an acquaintance, who it seems has become a champion against Splenda. I have been using Splenda since it became available, and I read every bit of information I can find on it. I am thrilled with Splenda and what it has done for me, in controlling my blood glucose levels and helping me to lose weight. I have had none of the horrific symptoms people in your site have reported, and intend to keep on using Splenda. I read with interest a comment on your site that Splenda was "rushed into marketing without adequate research." Well, as the original article in Diabetes Management stated, sucralose had been in use in England and Europe for almost 30 years prior to becoming available in the U.S.. I hardly consider a background like that to be rushed or inadequate. One thing I noticed about virtually all the responses on your site, is that almost no one indicated any diagnosis by a physician of a problem with Splenda. Virtually every report of a problem is anecdotal, and self-diagnostic. While I do not say that no one has ever had a reaction to Splenda, I do say that your site stands in opposition to every other source I have read in my studies. This reminds me of my step-daughter, who refuses to eat at Taco Bell, claiming she got food poisoning at one, becoming sick within an hour of eating. Despite the fact that numerous people have tried to explain to her that food poisoning has an incubation period much longer than an hour, she is positive it was Taco Bell's fault. I submit that the majority of those claiming problems with Splenda are probably reacting to something else. Seeing the recommendation that people use sacharrin instead of Splenda makes me feel that maybe you are backed by the makers of sacarrhin, with an agenda to scare people away from Splenda. I will keep my Splenda until such time as I find a lot more credible evidence supporting claims on your site, and proof that everybody else is wrong." Thank you A.B. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities. .
